Fragile Planet 3 - Fragile Earth

The Fragile Planet series of canvases is a visual meditation on the climate crisis. Fragile Earth, the third in the series, reflects upon our planet’s current climate turmoil as the Earth overheats. After the circular underpainting was applied to the flat canvas, it was held vertically on each edge in turn so that gravity – the force which dominates our lives on Earth but which we are almost never aware of – could guide the paint into sinuous, organic shapes. Concentric circles of dilute acrylic were then applied creating an almost retina-like image, perhaps humanity watching as their actions bring their home planet to the point of destruction.
