Kathy Rooney is a painter and printmaker based in London and Suffolk. Her abstract practice, whether in painting or screen-printing, focuses on creating an active surface through layering of vivid colours, working with the pigment on the surface as it develops, breaking out of conventional edges and boundaries and exploring the power of gesture.
In her printmaking, she creates unique monotypes (rather than editions) which often evolve from questions such as coastal erosion, nature’s living environments under our feet, or even the patterns in stones or minerals.
A late-comer to art practice, she has MA degrees in Fine Art and in Printmaking from Middlesex University, is a member of the Fankle Art Collective (www.fankle.art), Running Jump Print Workshop (https://www.runningjumpprint.com/) and Circular Art Space, Bristol. She has exhibited in London, Suffolk, Bristol, Luxembourg and Madrid. Her works are in private collections in London, Suffolk, the USA and Greece.
Recent and forthcoming exhibitions include Britten Pears Summer Contemporary (Snape Maltings, Suffolk, 2024, 2025), INTERSECT (Fankle Collective, Stratford Unitarian Gallery E15, October 2025), Members Exhibition (Circular Art Space, Bristol, January 2026) and FLOW (Fankle Collective, Brixton Library, June 2026). A solo show is scheduled for September 2026 at the Stratford Unitarian Gallery.
