Agate - The Textile Panels

The shapes in this series of textile panels each measuring 120 (W) x 180 (H) cm were inspired by a large piece of agate which I sketched at London’s Natural History Museum. Printed on calico, the image evolved organically as each element was printed individually using masking and stencils. I wanted to work at a much larger scale than usual and to create an apparently simple result which was in fact complex to achieve.

One of the panels is in the collection of the Stratford Unitarian Gallery in London.
